All Aboard!

Woo hoo! Our final week before break is here! I am so excited about this week. This week we will be using a holiday classic, The Polar Express to drive our literacy instruction. We will use the book to practice sequencing, cause & effect, rhyming, counting syllables, and character traits.

We will wrap up our unit on Friday with a viewing of The Polar Express movie. I will be asking for parents who are willing to contribute pop-corn, hot chocolate, and other fun treats for our movie. I am also looking for parents who would be available to help out Friday afternoon from 12:30-3:45 to pop pop-corn or brew and serve hot chocolate. If you are available to pop-in or stay, any additional help would be great.

I am also encouraging students to wear their pajamas for the day, like the children in the story. Please remember that if the weather permits we will be going outside for recess, so also think about warmth.

Thank you all so much and I look forward to sharing some pictures of our Polar Express experience this week.

Senses of The Season in Action!

As promised, I have posted some pictures from our Senses of the Season unit.

In this photo, students are using their senses of smell and touch to create some cinnamon ornaments.

Here are some samples from our "Sights of The Season" books.

Pack Your Bags...

Fasten your seatbelts, put your trays in their up-right and locked positions, we are ready for take-off! Next week, I am so excited to join the class on an adventure around the world, taking a look at how children celebrate Christmas. Some of our destinations include Italy, Sweden, Isreal, The Netherlands, and America. I think this promises to be a great journey! Talk with your child each night about which country they visited and what they learned.

December Fun! Sneak Peek...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I can't believe December is right around the corner, time flies when you are having fun in first grade! I want to thank everyone for taking time to meet with me these past few weeks. It was great to check in, brag on this amazing class, and hear feedback from students and parents.

I am excited to share some of the great lessons we have coming us this month!

We are starting off the month with a Gingerbread unit. This unit integrates literacy, math, and science. If you have any versions of The Gingerbread Man books we would love to borrow them. We will be reading several different versions to focus on comparing and contrasting.

I am also very excited to start a science unit in Room 4!

As you can see, we will be using some fun holiday tradtions to guide our upcoming science unit.

I am very excited for the fun & learning that lies ahead in Room 4 this month! :)
